Currently, many states enable only the most simplistic microgrids to be built. To incent more advanced microgrids and opportunities for independent developers market barriers must be resolved which include some common themes across different states. Those barriers include:
Clarifying rules to allow third-parties to deploy microgrids that serve multiple customers.
Developing microgrid tariffs that compensate for resilience and other microgrid services and allow for diverse technologies.
Streamlining interconnection rules for microgrids.
